4 Years of Testing and Improvement
After four years of extensive testing, fire burning, and enjoying the warmth, the time has come. The indestructible fire basket made of 4 mm Corten steel. Through our years of joint effort with our Scout group, the design for this fire basket was created. Fire baskets of similar design are always of very low quality and inconvenient to use. This fire basket was created because we couldn't find what we were looking for. We combined these desires into the Fort. fire basket:
- A fire basket where you don't lose the bottom plate;
- A fire basket that doesn't rust away after a single use;
- A fire basket that can withstand a bump;
- A fire basket where the wood doesn't fall out;
- A fire basket with good airflow for optimal clean combustion;
- A fire basket that's easy to clean;
- A fire basket that's easy to stack.
Why Corten Steel?
Corten steel contains a special rust-resistant alloy, which creates a rust-brown oxide layer on the outside. In the first year and a half, this layer develops, and rust water may still be released. Therefore, it is recommended not to place the fire basket directly on tiles to prevent rust stains. After about a year and a half, the oxidation process is complete, and the fire basket will no longer release rust water. As the fire basket ages, its color will become darker and deeper.
Why is the fire basket called Fort.?
Roderik and Daan have been volunteers for years at Scouting Group Willem de Zwijger, where their passion for fire was born. The group's building is regularly rented out for events, and the fire baskets may be used during rentals. Over time, it became increasingly difficult to purchase good fire baskets, and the available options were uninspiring.
Roderik decided to design fire baskets himself, and after several iterations, a beautiful and simple design was built in 2018 for the Scout group. The renters were very enthusiastic and often asked where they could buy the fire baskets. The idea was temporarily put on the back burner, but the design remained in use and was eventually refined with new insights in a new workshop. This led to the creation of the Fort fire basket, and the first series was built here.
